- People have germs. Especially on their hands. I don't know where your hands have been, and I'd like to avoid getting sick.
- Handshakes hurt. What appears as two people momentarily squeezing each other's hand is actually someone else squeezing all the swollen, inflamed joints in my hand and causing pain that could last for hours.
Thankfully, I live in Hawaii. In place of a handshake, we hug and sometimes do the cheek kiss. Hands aren't involved (unless you're a businessperson or are involved in a professional atmosphere, but even then we tend to be pretty casual). Hallelujah for the laid-back Hawaiian vibe!
